The material to be processed could be produced from a mix of wood dust and some liquid to simulate the process happening inside the insect.
This reactor would probably need some technology for good mixing an (unlike insects) a regulated temperature for best results.
The printer would then print the self hardening material in the form desired.
Advantages:
Material would probably be cheaper than plastic
The product would be bio degradable. No waste - just compost
